International Moving and Vaccinations

When planning an international move, you will want to take some potential precautions related to the health of you and your family. In some cases, depending on the country or part of the world to which you are moving, your may be recommended or even required to receive certain vaccinations. A wide range of vaccinations may apply depending on the geographical area and perhaps your health history, and these vaccinations can vary with time. In some cases certain vaccinations may even be a prerequisite to getting a visa or being allowed to travel to a country. Because there are so many differing requirements for different parts of the world, it is recommended to research this well in advance of your travel date.

Do some initial research online regarding international moving and vaccinations to see what is being discussed regarding vaccinations and your destination. It may be through travel forums, government websites or health websites. You will not want to take action based solely on information found on the internet, but it can often give you some general knowledge to go off.

If you are moving internationally through a job relocation, your employer should have access to appropriate information about what is required to travel to the country in question, including health and vaccination information. If they have sent previous employees there they should have a protocol regarding these matters, and may arrange a health checkup beforehand.

Another good information resource is the nearest embassy representing your destination country, or an American government agency such as the CDC (Center For Disease Control). Since diseases and other health risks can change over time, they will have the latest information and will be able to advise you on current requirements or recommendations regarding international travel vaccinations.

Of course it is always a smart idea to discuss your travel plans with your doctor. They will know, or at least be able to access the latest information on necessary vaccines according to your destination. Additionally, they are familiar with your particular health history and current condition and will be able to advise you not only about vaccinations, but also other measures you may need to take to remain healthy while out of the country.

Bear in mind that vaccination requirement and recommendations for international travel may be different for children under a certain age than it will be for adults. This is not always the case but it is another issue to look in to.

An experienced movers and packers in Singapore will be able to advise you and equip you with a comprehensive checklist of pre-move steps. However, it is wise to consult with the above sources and do some research on international moving and vaccinations based on your particular situation. It is never fun to get sick in a foreign country, but with a little preparation you can avoid most problems.
